April 6 & 7

Yesterday (4/6) we arrived at Mountain Road RV Park in Tucumcari, New Mexico, another stop along Interstate 40. I40 was constructed along the famous Route 66(back in the day called "The Mother Road") which most of us know about from the movie "Cars". Much of the scenery we have seen these past few days reminds us of Radiator Springs.

Today (4/7) we left The Land of Enchantment and entered The Lone Star State. Travel across our nation is not only an adventure of geography, it is a lesson in changing cultures. Tucumcari is proud of it's Rt 66 history. They are a little defensive that they don't carry USA Today (our fav newspaper) because they are so far from civilization.

"Texas" is a word from the Caddo Indians "teyshas" meaning "friends". Did you know the Texas State motto is "Friendship". That seems a little at odds with another TX saying "Don't Mess with Texas". So, we crossed state lines ending up in Amarillo. After a stop at Walmart for provisions, we parked at the "A-OK" RV Park, a name we found to be a little optimistic. The first sight we saw was this old pickup towing this old motorhome away.

Becca and I walked over to the office (the little shack behind her) to sign in. Like "Rainbow RV Park" in Rexburg, there is no one in the office. You fill in the form, put it an envelop with the payment and put it in the slot.

There are a few things here that could use fixin' up. But we are parked safely out of the strong winds, gusting to 35 mph. They rock the RV. But the sturdy folks here call it "breezy". We have full hook ups, good satellite reception and two bars on our internet system. Life in the Texas Panhandle is good for us today.

Tomorrow is Easter. We have located our nearest chapel, The Amarillo 4th Ward. We hope for all of you that you are able to celebrate this special day. Happy Easter!
