Aunt Catherine's Casa

When we were in Sacramento we had a big treat. We got a tour of Aunt Catherine's refurbished interior. Here is a peekFrom the front door looking across the living room toward the dining room. Note the cool contrasting wall colors.

Big Sur Roadtrip

Yesterday (10/15) Meg asked us to do something on our to-do list that didn't involve them.  She and the girls had a full agenda, which included prepping for Arnie's birthday.

So we decided that we would do a little sightseeing along the "Central Coast", as they call this beautiful part of California.  Just south of us is Monterey, Pacific Grove, the "17 Mile Drive" (more like 40 miles if you get lost following the Detour signs), 

Pebble Beach (famous for Golf and rocks),

Carmel, and Big Sur. 

What a Line Up!

Armed with maps and camera we headed out on a genuine "top down" day.  Although we don't have a convertible, for most of the drive we had the windows down and the sunroof open.  Mom navigated us through all of these famous areas. In addition to the visual adventure we had of the rugged Pacific Ocean coast, wind bent Cyprus trees and towering Redwood forests--including one deer sighting--we had an olfactory adventure, with the aromas of lowtide surf, eucalyptus, pine and redwood trees filling our car.

We had lunch in the Gallery Restaurant in the Pebble Beach golf complex.

Very Ono!  It was a great day for the Auswanderers.

So many vehicles...

...so little time. While we were in Oregon we stopped at the Country Coach factory and took a little tour. Here I am in the cockpit of one of their models. Bro Nelson, a retired Air Force pilot, observed it had more controls than his C-130. Big, fancy and expensive but not for us--no second bedroom.

Then when we were in Sacramento, we stayed at the Expo RV park on the weekend of an oldies car show. Some of our neighbors brought entries and they let us sit in a couple. An extra treat --the owner of the rod below had his son with him-- a young adult with Downs Syndrome, named Pat. He and Becca were happy to meet each other.
