Yellowstone Adventure - Part 2

On Thursday, 8/23, the Auswanderers with Emma and Lily left West Yellowstone and entered the Yellowstone National Park, the very first National Park. This is the 140th anniversary of Yellowstone and it is an amazing place that has become one of our favorite places in the world. The stated mission of the park is complex. They want to provide both accessibility for the public and conservation of the environment. Much of the west entrance is heavily forested liked this.

Becca with her Golden Access Passport "A Lifetime Admission Permit", which she obtained many years ago right here at this park,  hosted us all through the entrance. As we traveled around the park we passed the Yellowstone Lake, the largest fresh water lake above 7000 feet in North America. 

In the park we had several opportunities to cross the Continental Divide.

We made reservations in the Bridge Bay Campground where an RV can camp beside a tent.

When we registered, Becca once again showed her Golden Access Passport for a discount for us.

We were assigned sites 317 & 318 in loop G. We were soon settled in. Here is our almost-8 granddaughter.

And here is our 10 year old granddaughter. Both girls are looking forward to tomorrow when their Mom and rest of their family will join us.

This, our first night in the park, we headed for the outdoor theater for a Ranger presentation on Bison. And what did our wondering eyes see? A small herd of Bison! This pasture is one of the places where buffalo roam.

On the path to the theater the girls found a large mass of bison scat. This was one the most memorable events of the day for the granddaughters. Plus we saw a fox run through the theater. Oh yes, the Ranger slide show was pretty good too. He taught us many things about bison.

While we at the slide show, the Ranger pointed out in the dark sky the crossing of the space station satellite among the blanket of stars. Emma and Lily sweetly helped Gramma back to the car. The night at this altitude dropped the temperature into the 40ies--a good time for snuggle down in our blankets, which we did.
